   Q. Will you be my photographer or will you be sending someone else?

A. Yes, I will be the photographer that shows up to the coffee shop for the initial meeting, at your home for your portrait session, to the park for your on location session or at the church for your wedding! This is my business and I do everything myself: booking sessions, shooting the photographs, editing images, placing orders… everything!  Katie McDonald Photography is my life and my passion, everything has my personal touch!

   Q. When is payment due?

A.  For portrait sessions payment of the session fee is due at the time of the session.  For weddings a deposit of 25% of the Collection price is due when we sign the contract.  As far as the remaining balance is concerned, I’m flexible.  I recently got married and I know how stressful wedding planning can be.  You can pay the entire amount along with the deposit, make several payments or pay the entire balance on your wedding day!  For all print and product orders, payment is due at the time you place your order.

    Q. Is guest photography permitted?

A.  This is a very complicated question.  Yes and no.  During In Home and On Location portrait sessions cameras other than mine are not permitted.  As far as weddings go, I’m not going to confiscate Aunt Edna’s camera at the church door, I do however ask that guests don’t try to capture the same shots I do.  I want to provide you with the best wedding photos possible, and in order to do this I need the wedding party’s full attention during posed portraits.  People don’t know where to look when they see multiple flashes from relative’s cameras, on top of mine.  During the ceremony and reception I just ask that guests wait until I am completely finished photographing before they begin snapping shots.

   Q. How long after the wedding will we get our pictures?

A.  Your full resolution CD with copyright release will be ready two to three weeks after the wedding.  Your online gallery will be posted after editing is complete.

  1. When will we get our ordered items?

A.  Depending on the size of your order and the productivity of the lab, prints and printed canvas take between ten days and three weeks.  After editing, specialty items like DVD slideshows and Coffee Table Books take anywhere from two to six weeks to complete.

  1. What if I decide later that I want to order more prints, a Coffee Table Book or a DVD slideshow?

A.  Galleries will remain online for 60 days, after that if you decide that you would like to order prints or a specialty item…simply give me a call!  I save the digital files for each wedding and portrait session, so you can order at anytime!

    Q.  Will I be able to view my portraits online?

A.  Yes!  For every wedding collection an online gallery will be posted so that guests can order prints with out making taking orders a hassle for the Bride and Groom!  For portrait sessions you have the option to either have a meeting with me and view your images or have an online gallery posted.

    Q. What if we want pets in our portraits?

A.  Great!  I love animals so pets are always welcome in sessions!  I do, however, reserve the right to refuse to work with any animal.  Snakes and all types of spiders are not welcome in any session.

     Q. Do you travel?

A.  Yes!  For portrait sessions 40 miles of travel is included, which means areas about an hour out of Des Moines such as Boone and Ames are an option.  Mileage will be charged at $.45/mile after that.  For weddings, travel is included up to two hours outside of Des Moines.   A fee of $100 will be added to your Wedding Collection for destinations 2-4 hours outside Des Moines.  If you are planning a wedding in another destination, that’s wonderful!  I have recently photographed weddings in Fort Knox, KY and Tampa, FL!  There will be no additional cost added to your Wedding Collection; I just ask that you pay for transportation and a hotel.  Travel time is NOT subtracted from the Collection time.  I will be onsite shooting for all hours listed in the package.
